1 In this paper, “land” is regarded as a specific portion of the geographic space or a territory, encompassing terrain, water, soil and land cover components. This definition is derived from Ciparisse (2003).
2 Although local and traditional knowledge (TK) are not exactly the same concept, here we use TK because the differences between the two do not influence the main discussion in this paper.
